Kathryn Monks Used Art To Heal After Domestic Abuse
Back to newsKathryn Monks endured a 15 year relationship with an abusive partner, after which she turned to art to help her explore her mental health and the trauma she went through.
"After I was out of it I decided I wanted to do a fine art degree, but unknowingly at the time, I embarked on a 3 year recovery process as I explored what I had gone through. Many years later I have decided that I would like to show others my work as an expression of emotion and psychology and maybe challenge the narrative of whom can get caught up in a domestic violence situation.
I used the services of the Wish Centre and can’t thank the team enough for the support that was given to me, when I needed it the most."

Life has its ups and downs, and there was a time when I was very down. It was then that I discovered the power of art. Through art I explored my emotions and psychological reactions to events and expressed it in pictures. The art leaves a legacy of that time.
